MasterChef Pia Gava’s Red Wine Risotto

Escape to Italy for an Italian Food Adventure as Italian-Australian MasterChef Contestant Pia Gava teaches us to make her striking Red Wine Risotto!

1.5hrs | 10 - 30 Guests | $40 per person

“This wasn’t the usual dish that my family created but it comes from a memory about my dad. He would make his own homemade wine every year and would be so proud of his achievement. I remember his large wine barrels holding his liquid gold and also fermenting aromas. He would allow me to sneak peaks into each barrel and show me the progress of his wine. He would also hold up a glass to the light to show us the clarity and colour of his red wine. Don’t you love good memories!” - Pia Gava

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
In this fun and hands-on class, MasterChef Season 9 Contestant Pia shares one of her favourite and signature dishes that features in her cookbook, a striking Red Wine Risotto! Channel your inner Nonna as you experience this unique opportunity to learn this craft from an expert, appreciating the joy of Italian cooking and the ease of making pasta from scratch at home! Risotto has a notorious reputation for being fussy, as it requires a lot of attention and stirring. However, with a little patience, confidence and the base technique under your belt, you will be able to add this recipe to your cooking repertoire in no time. We'll then add a deliciously modern twist to this age-old classic by adding a splash of red wine to give the risotto a vibrant ruby red colour! By the end of this class, you'll have gained the confidence to try cooking your own risotto at home, as well as learning where to source the freshest seasonal and local ingredients.

Pia’s food memories are strongly kept alive today, with recipes like her signature gnocchi dishes, homemade pasta, special occasion sweet treats and of course comfort food. She also wants to share her passion so everyone can have the same experience. Following the MasterChef experience Pia had work experience at Om Nom dessert bar in Melbourne and knew this food path had to continue. Pia had completed collating and writing family recipes and successfully self-published her first cookbook ‘Pia’s Table’ in August 2018 which celebrates history, tradition, food and family. Pia shares many family stories, her MasterChef signature gnocchi dish, pasta tips as well as many other family dishes that can be achieved by all. Given the cookbook's success, Pia has commenced researching and collating for her second cookbook which will have a more modern and seasonal theme. Pia continues to share her passion for Italian food and cooking through hosting cooking classes, cooking demonstrations and food events.
